Ang Dating Daan (Tagalog for The Old Path) is a religious radio and television program in the Philippines produced by the Members of the Church of God International. In Portugal and Brazil, it is broadcast as O Caminho Antigo which is a direct translation for The Old Path.In Latin America, it is broadcast as El Camino Antiguo which is also a direct translation of the English name.
The Members of the Church of God International denies several doctrines such as the Trinity and salvation by grace alone.It seemed to be the end in his education and career as he was expected by everyone to become a famous lawyer, a doctor or a brilliant scientist in the future. His interest in the Holy Book was parked by his membership in the religion of his parents.However, it turned out later on that there was not really a twist of fate but rather a manifestation of God's work of hand bringing him to his real destiny. Baptized in the congregation-Members of the Church of God in Christ Jesus, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth in the Philippines under the leadership of the late Nicolas Perez, on April 7,1964 at the age of 17, he was so zealous in his religion.On its 35th anniversary, Ang Dating Daan held a special anniversary presentation last October 12, 2015 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum featuring the ADD Chorale. It was aired LIVE via satellite and over the internet exclusively in over 1,360 monitoring centers of ADD worldwide.It also marked the official attempt of MCGI to break the Guinness world record for the "Largest Gospel Choir in a Single Location." Under the supervision of Guinness official adjudicator and independent auditing firm Punongbayan & Araullo Grant Thorton, the Guinness world record was awarded to MCGI with a total of 8,688 choristers from the ADD Chorale beating the previous record held by the Philippine religious group Iglesia Ni Cristo with 4,745 participants during their 100th centennial anniversary at the Philippine Arena.Currently, Ang Dating Daan airs in 73 countries worldwide including United States, Latin America, Uruguay, Brazil, Portugal (as "O Caminho Antigo"), Spain (as "El Camino Antiguo"), India, Japan, South Africa, Saipan.
On August 16, 2004, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) preventively suspended the showing of the Ang Dating Daan program for 20 days due to slander and use of offensive and obscene language by its televangelist host Eliseo Soriano, as a mean of disciplinary action.
And Brother Eli, known for his mastery of the Holy Scriptures and unmistakable insights is nothing short of a broadcasting phenomenon like the program that has drawn and won the woos and ires of listeners, believers, converts and enemies.
Known for exposing unscrupulous and get-rich-quick schemes in religions, the program has become very controversial, copied and satirized but admired for its thought-provoking and insightful viewpoints, biblically speaking. Soriano whom anyone can ask question about just anything under the sun but always makes sure that he makes his answers irrefutable through constant reference to the passages and verse in the Bible.
Armed with the dream and keen desire to spread the true and everlasting gospel of Christ based on the Bible, Bro. Soriano was first heard over the television through the program Ang Dating Daan in February 1983.
Without him meaning to, the flagship television program has become the independent religious force to reckon with in the network-dominated television industry for over 15 years now.
