Pivot table not updating correctly
Rather than cover each set of controls sequentially, this chapter covers the following functional areas in making pivot table customization: You need to make a few changes to almost every pivot table to make it easier to understand and interpret. To create this pivot table, open the Chapter 3 data file. Check the Sector, Customer, and Revenue fields, and drag the Region field to the Columns area.
Starting in version 7.0 new reports will have 'Automatic update of data tables based on other data tables'.If you change any of the text or numbers in your data set, you need to refresh the pivot table. If you change the size of your data set by adding or deleting rows/columns, you need to update the source data for the pivot table. This way your data source will be updated automatically when you add or delete rows/columns. Refresh | Change Data Source Any changes you make to the data set are not automatically picked up by the pivot table. Refresh the pivot table or change the data source to update the pivot table with the applied changes. Reports created in versions before 7.0 will still maintain the legacy behavio unless explicitly changed.
This chapter from Excel 2016 Pivot Table Data Crunching covers how you can use many powerful settings to tweak pivot tables.
Tip: change your data set to a table before you insert a pivot table.
On the Analyze tab, in the Data group, click Change Data Source.
This add-in is great if you will be creating pivot tables frequently.
For more information, visit The default pivot table layout contains no gridlines and is rather plain. Any table style that you choose is better than the default.
These tweaks range from making cosmetic changes to changing the underlying calculation used in the pivot table.
